Ephemeral – Inspired by Movement is a month-long celebration of movement and its connection to the temporality of life and the lasting impact of memory. Through weekly live performances, kinetic sculptures, and still images that evoke movement, viewers will be invited to explore the ephemeral nature of movement and life. Guest curators Erynn McConnell and Peter Stevinson selected works from artists working in a variety of mediums that capture single, fleeting moments within a cohesive statement. Whether it be literal motion, still images that evoke movement, or a performance artist’s approach to space and movement within the gallery, the artists selected express moments of movement that create lasting memories.
Ephemeral – Inspired by Movement is on view from May 25th – June 17th, 2017. Opening Reception with the artist present and live performances will be on May 25th, from 5-8 pm. Free and open to the public.
Featuring visual artists Corrina Espinosa, Jeremy Grant, John Lake, Lucas T. McMahon, Louis Trujillo and Melanie Walker.
In conjunction with visual artists, Art Gym Gallery has invited a variety of performance artists and dance artists to create and perform within the gallery space during the exhibition opening reception on May 25, from 6-8 pm. Performers Evolving Doors, Akoya Dance and Phannie Haver were invited to interact with the idea of ephemerality and to use the gallery environment to create site-specific movement pieces.
